Day 1 -- We're here

Roger:  Well…we’ve arrived in Beijing!   We had an uneventful travel day (or was it two days?).  All I know is we crossed the International Date Line and now it is August 5th.  Jonny stated it best when he said “that’s confusing.”  Anyway…no issues traveling….all flights were on time.  Funny moment of the day:  We were on our decent into Hong Kong and encountered a little turbulence.  At one point there was a little drop to which my 9 year old (Jonny) yelled…”woooo hooo…that was fun.”  And when I say yelled…I mean it.  Everyone got a good chuckle.  Most of the passengers didn’t speak Texan and couldn’t understand what he said but they sure knew he enjoyed that little drop.

We are 48 hours from getting Emily…can’t wait!

Jonny:  Since my dad told a funny story about me, I want to tell a funny story about him.  We had to go through security at LAX because we changed terminals.  Once we were finished my dad went to check our flight on the monitors and he said that it was the final boarding for our flight.  It scared me to death!  Then my dad figured out that was an earlier flight to Hong Kong and our flight didn’t board for another 15 minutes.  He is no longer in charge of looking at the airport monitors.

I am really excited about climbing the Great Wall of China and visiting Tienanmen Square tomorrow.

Ryan:  I am glad we are finally here.  I am sick of plane rides…but we have quite a few more left.  The Hong Kong airport was huge and full of people.  My mom said it was like a mall.  On our last flight of the day to Beijing we had the most strangest side with our breakfast….baked beans and pumpkin.  It was very very good.

I can’t wait to go to pearl market tomorrow.

Tammy:  Well we aren’t in Kansas anymore! Oh I mean Texas. It was a little breath taking when we got off the plane in Beijing. It really hit me that we are actually in China to get Emily! Words cannot describe the feeling inside. Words from my friend Hilary were to take it all in and enjoy the moment. Emotions are high and ready to put my hands on Emily. We have a day of touring tomorrow. Can’t wait to see what China is going to bring.

We went out to dinner at 9 pm and on our walk down the sidewalk we see all kinds of things to buy. Ryan saw squid on a “homemade” grill and who knows what else. I am sure if we wanted something specific it was there. We were going to the WU Mart not to be confused with WAL-Mart, but it had closed for the day. Now we are back in our hotel and both boys are asleep.

Check out our breakfast menu:

Yes...that says Scrambled Egg with Streaky Bacon, Potato, Pumpkin and Baked Beans.

In case you were wondering what that would look like:

Note:  the streaky bacon is separating the baked beans from the eggs....nice touch!

  13. Jonny, sometimes kids are just better at doing things than the parents. So glad you were on the top of the schedule.
