Day 4 -- Chinese Adoption Day

Jonny:  Today was a very busy day.  We had to go to three different places but most of them my brother and I didn't have to go in.  It was really fun.  Emily was very very scared especially in the van.

Emily is starting to get to know us.  She climbed over me once and reached for me.  She also likes my mom's glasses.

Roger:  Well folks...it is official...from a China perspective anyway.

This morning we filled out all the paperwork for various Chinese government offices.  Our guide, Jenny, basically told us what to fill out and where to sign.  We had a few hours off and then it was on the van for another adventurous drive through Nanchang.  Did we mention traffic is pretty much a free for all?  The funny thing is...I am starting to get it.  I see that what seems like chaos to this American, is not so much for them.  Everyone honks and no one cares. You can walk, drive or ride your bike where you want on both sides of the road and as long as you just go...you are good.

We had three stops to make while we were out.  First was to the civil affairs adoption office.  Here we took a "family photo".  We then waited a bit for our interview.  We spent about 5 minutes with an adoption official who asked a few questions about why we wanted to adopt, our plans to care for Emily and the education we planned to provide.  We paid our fees, she handed us a gift and back to the waiting room we went.  About 15 minutes later Jenny brought our red folder to us....

This is the official adoption paperwork for Emily...stating that she is ours!

We also had an opportunity to take a picture with the orphanage director for the Fuzhou Social Welfare Institute that provided care for Emily.

Next it was off to the Notary Office.  We waited a few minutes and then were called to the desk where the official asked us a few questions (like do you promise to never abandon her) and then we signed a document and were on our way again.

The final stop was to the Public Security Bureau.  Here we had a few minutes to chat with a couple of other families that were adopting.  Jenny knew an official who agreed to put our paperwork on the top and so we were the first family to be processed.  They took a picture of Emily for her Chinese passport and that was it.  We were back on the van and on our way to the hotel.

Emily is doing well.  She started to relax more this afternoon around us.  Both boys had some playtime with her on the floor.  It was good for them.

As you can see from the picture above...mommy is asleep...so no blog post from her today.  The "Bigger" brother Ryan (his name for himself) is out as well...so it's just Jonny and me today.

Thanks so much for the comments...we love reading them!

Here are a few more pics...

  3. Do y'all feel like this is real yet?? You have a little girl!!! ;) Emily is so precious. I cry everytime I look at thus blog. The love for this tiny girl is so apparent. As a mommy, it's hard to grasp the idea of one of my babies ending up in an orphanage... But then to see the look on your faces as you take her into your arms... God's plan is so big! Emily is "home." crazy to think she doesn't know it yet... But when she's older she won't know any different! So amazing! Thank you for letting us share in the magnificence of these first moments. I have been so encouraged by seeing the Lord at work here. Praise Jesus for Emily and for preparing your family to love her - your whole life - preparing your home to have room for one more. ;) Can't wait to meet her.
